The tribe was created using ancient magic at the dawn of civilization along with a number of other tribes and races. They were created to be compatible with humans though other reasons for their creation have been lost in time.

Lifespans are unusually long, averaging around 1300-1400 years though the oldest recorded reached 1822 years. Reproductive maturity is reached around 25-30 years of age. Responsibilities and freedom of adulthood is granted at the age of 50 though mental maturity may vary by a few years. Full physical maturity however does not occur until about 80 years of age at which point they are considered a “true adult”. This long lifespan has had the side effect of members less commonly mating outside of the tribe due to the fact they will almost always far outlive anyone they may partner with. More recently acquired magic allows some lengthening of an outsider’s lifespan but the difference still remains and does cause problems, sometimes resulting in a break up.

Genetics are strong, with wings and longer lifespan in particular often maintained down through the second generation of breeding with outsiders. Female, male and hermaphrodite genders are normal with somewhat higher proportion of females and herms than males. Stature and build tend to be somewhat larger than humans and size ranges tend to vary by bloodline. Wing form is the type designed for soaring and usually require some form of cliff, roof or other height to get airborne. Some mature individuals are capable of taking to the air from the ground though it is difficult.

Consent can be given at the age of 50 and older; it can also be given at younger ages but only with parental or guardian confirmation. Incest is generally accepted and physical intimacy is very common among siblings especially in earlier years. Children born of incestual mating are at much lower risk of defects than humans but problems can still occur. Such matings do not happen very often however. Relationships, mating and marriages are widely varied and most arrangements are considered a personal matter. Rape and sexual or physical abuse are considered very severe crimes however. Slavery is not well regarded but does occur, mostly from outsiders who already own slaves. Slavery must be consensual, with that consent capable of being revoked by the enslaved within reason.

Government consists of several councils specializing in various areas as well as councils or individuals representing the various communities. Nobility and class are minor considerations though they played a larger role in the past. The tribe does maintain a militia including some battle mages but it is intended for defensive purposes. It is rarely used in full force, usually only sending small contingents to assist allies or others when necessary. Foreign policies are generally isolationist though tribe members commonly may assist elsewhere with healing or diplomatic services.

Society has a matriarchal tendency due to the low proportion of males compared to females and herms but it is not oppressive towards males. Physical strength, aggressiveness and dominance are not generally considered ideal attributes. Compassion, logic, sincerity and mental fortitude are more highly regarded. Most tribe members will naturally seek the most harmonious solutions, at times to the point of it becoming a hindrance in some situations.
